  • Great horse. Ran against older horses early. Ran against quality horses, and always did well, if not quite winning. A greatly underappreciated colt. I love his name!!!

  • Well said. I like his grit and name as well.

    Take care.

  • That was not a bunch of chumps he beat! Once again I believe he was rode with a hand ride

  • Agreed. A&L was truly a legend.

    Thanks for viewing.

  • His stretch drives are really somethin' to see!

  • They sure are, great turn of foot.

  • Thanks, that was great. A&L was my first horse I ever rooted for. He was awesome to say the least.

  • Nodouble was a two time champion handicap horse. But Arts and Letters was in midst of one of the great fall campaigns by a 3 year old. A&L was 2nd in Flamingo+Fountain of Youth+Florida Derby, won the Blue Grass by 15, and then lost heartbreakers to undefeated Majestic Prince in the Derby+Preakness. But, he was just starting to role.Beat elders in the Met mile, avenged himself over Majestic Prince in the Belont, and won Jim Dandy,Travers,Woodward,Jockey CG Cup(by 14).Truly an overlooked gem

  • Cappy with a truly professional, clean call. He was truly one of a kind. And also note how long the backstretch chute at Belmont was in those days! I think they cut that length down in the late 1970s.
