It is interesting to hear this lecture, but even Schoenberg said he didn't compose it in a programmatic way. So this isn't anything more than this guys interpretation.
this is so useful for understanding this music, thanks for posing. Makes you wonder though, is one supposed to understand all this just by listening to the music?! And can you enjoy it without knowing all the backgound?
it seems like a rehearsal with one of those conductors explaining and commenting every little passage without stopping the performance... it's irritating, but interesting; surely one doesn't fall asleep listening to it!
although informative, this guy's lecture grates on my last nerve. I can't stand his voice or his delivery. For some reason, it's like nails on a chalkboard for me... Just what was "church"-like about that cadence exactly? not plagal, not phrygian.
