Invasion of Normandy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Invasion of Normandy was the invasion and establishment of Allied forces in Normandy, France, during Operation Overlord in World War II. It was the largest amphibious operation in history. This article covers the invasion from the initial landings on 6 June 1944, until the time of the Allied breakout in late July.
Allied land forces that saw combat in Normandy on 6 June came from Canada, the Free French Forces, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In the weeks following the invasion, Polish forces also participated, as well as contingents from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and the Netherlands.[5] Most of the above countries also provided air and naval support, as did the Royal Australian Air Force,[1] the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and the Royal Norwegian Navy.[2]
The Normandy invasion began with overnight parachute and glider landings, massive air attacks and naval bombardments. In the early morning, amphibious landings on five beaches codenamed Juno, Gold, Omaha, Utah, and Sword began and during the evening the remaining elements of the parachute divisions landed. The "D-Day" forces deployed from bases along the south coast of England, the most important of these being Portsmouth.

  • lone scottish piper just chills in incoming fire playing scotland the brave, i know a story about that, some of the germans that were captured right on the beach were asked why did you not shoot that piper, they say how can you shoot someone that crazy.

  • @Riggro thats what hitler said

  • @FACTUNTHJU WWII was mainly caused by punishing Germany from the damages of the first World War. :(

  • After the war i do not think the Germans were punished at all for causing the second world war and all the misery they created...the Iron curtain should have included all of germany and Stalin (who was an even bigger cunt than Hitler) would have sorted the germans out and given them a taste of what they dealt out to others..........40 million people died as a result of the Germans letting Hitler come to power.

  • i knew the history of d-day...and understood that the germans F themselves lol but geez man their lack of comms is amazing
