See a 1911A1 that failed inspection, was destroyed and retrieved from the scrap heap. The name "lunchbox" comes from the way the frame was removed from the factory. Without a serial number, the frame was identified by the "NO" (Number) stamp lettering. Join me as I discuss this piece of WW II history.

  • Now is this legal to own since there is no Serial Number on it?

  • @Bandanabandito1 No, it's totally illegal. Don't tell anyone, OK?

  • I have a Remington Rand with no serial number or US Property markings. My gun's story is that it was used in WWII and brought home by the hero as a souveneir and I guess he got scared and shaved them off and reblued it. The bluing is exactly the same on both sides and of course is worn the same. And thanks to the Feder Gun Control Act, guns made before 1968 do not require serial numbers and I love this .45. I've had to make some tweaks but she shoots great for a 70 year old warhorse.

  • MAny walked away with better lunch boxes than that junk.

  • Colt collectors at gun shows note a very small number of 1911A1 fromWWII were given to politicians and others also that didn't have numbers. Supposedly a BATF bulletin that describes and exempts these small numbers that have very specific characteristics. Apparently factory stopped making them w/o numbers when they found out problem. (FYI serial numbers weren't required on handguns until 1934 and long guns until 1968.)

  • I have a government model 1911 pstl..but it has no brand name on it, only serial on it..I dont know if it is a remington rand or a Colt..But as i am looking at your models, they are the same with mine..Serial Nos. starts at V letter..at still in a very good condition..It has a rough surface above the slide and below the receiver..
