On a cold February Saturday morning, Stella walks gracefully by, showing off her elegance (and the fact that giraffes can adapt to cold weather, too).

  • Beautiful giraffe. Here in New Orleans, we have a bachelor herd of 5 representing 3 different subspecies. Reticulated, Masai, and Rothschilds giraffes. It's neat to see the different colors and patterns in each type.

  • I agree. All three subspecies are beautiful. Until recently, the Zoo had a Rothschild giraffe also. It was nice for visitors to be able to compare the patterns.

  • Are you sure giraffes don't mind the cold weather (even though many animals are quite adaptable)?

Are the giraffes fully grown, or are they still young? Apparently an adult male may reach 16 feet or more in height. Some of the tallest may reach 18 feet.
