You aren't really suppose to jump onto the pole, however, you are suppose to jump off of the ground. Many beginner-intermediate vaulters forget to jump off the ground when they vault even as simple as it is. Just another one of those things to think about during a vault.

you are not supposed to ever jump on the pole your supposed to run threw the pole.... I've also been told to keep the swing leg straight..

I just started pole vaulting at the end of this track season, and cant wait for the next one to start. My only problem so far is landing facing the right direction. Aha, I wanted to start pole vaulting because I thought it'd be fun to be up so high, but I realized when I started that you're too busy thinking of what you're doing to notice. c: Maybe the people who go really high have time to realize how high they are though?

I'm a very athletic guy, but my PR is only 7 feet. Its not from lack of speed or strenght and my forms alright. i just cant understand why in not clearing higher heights or being consistant. its my first year. any tips?

@ticonderoga8000 u really dont have to bend it it gets u more but it comes with time im a sophmore i was hurt freshman year and the very first meet i cleared 10 feet but i got hurt now so im only clearing down to 9 but my form has gotten better just my injury slows my speed.

My pole doesn't even bend and I get like over 8feet pretty easily. What I don't understand is why I can't do at least 10 feet right now. This video makes it look so easy. How do I make my pole bend and unlock the secret power inside or something.

@Corkum12 Corky! That was a nice comment ... you'll be at 9' very soon! And ... it won't be because of me. You are a great athlete with a great vault career ahead of you. I am very happy to be coaching you!

I'm trying to see why im spining out
kdude1234567 1 year ago
@kdude1234567 Are you bending the pole yet? One of the reasons a vaulter "spins out" is from pulling too early. Try holding off a split second on pulling ... until the pole unbends a little more. That may cure your problem.

I thought when you swing your take off leg, you are suppose to keep it straight the whole time....when she was at the top she went into a cannon ball to get more higher, is this correct?

There are some vaulters who keep the swing leg relatively straight, but for the vast majority of vaulters, when you go into your rockback, both legs coil to tuck and shoot out of the bend. It gives you more explosion off the pole.
