"The Writing's on the Wall (wenn das Schicksal dich ereilt)" from the original english demo recording of Frank Wildhorn's Rudolf - the Last Kiss, which would become Rudolf - Affaire Mayerling, the German-language musical currently playing at the Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria.

For the life of me I cannot find a single picture from this scene. So you get a Master of the Strings one instead.

  • Thank you for this! This is one of my favorite songs in the show!

  • @Vitruvian99, I think it might be Brandi Burkhardt who also sang in "Jekyll & Hyde: Resurrection"

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

  • do u know any sites with the lyrics for this?

  • Who is this? I know Taffee is played by Michael Lanning, but who plays Mary? Would be nice if anyone could tell me :-)

  • I tried a translation of Die Schatten Werden Langer too, but I couldn't get furher than one line. I think it's best for me to stick to literal translations.

Could you send me your translation? I would love to see it!

  • Yeah, completly.

Are you saying youve had a go a 'Help me through the night' too?? I'd be interested in talking a look at that, if you dont mind.

I got so pissed off with 'Shades of Night are Growing' that I've written my own. Uses the same rhyme scheme as the original, and keeps to the original meaning, wherever possible. Its been a very satisfying excersise.

  • Hehe, yeah, that does actually kinda make sense!!!! I can really kinda visualise it, I'd love to see that!!!!!

As for the pics, thanks!!! My Rudolf interest is extreemly new, so I havent yet been able to find the related sites and piccys and that. Thanks!!

  • Yeah, these orchestrations are 'thinner'. The original has much more of a moving waltz beat.

But that key change really make a lot of difference to the song- its less monotamous, repeatative, it adds just a little extra something to whats already a very brilliant, slightly hypnotic tune.

  • PS- (God, why dont I ever have enough space), I love those pics of Fäden in der Hand!!!!!!!!!

Something which always gets me rather is that that woman's in a proper corset, you can see that with her waist and the busk. Yet, where are the laces!!!!! In a song about strings and puppeteering, HER STRINGS ARE MISSING!!

Oh my goodness, I've just realised what Ive been missing from this English version- THE KEY CHANGE!!! They have this amazing key change, which is missing!!! at 2:31 (2:27 Ger)
