ADOPT AT BIDEAWEE, MANHATTAN: 866-262-8133 or bideawee.org
Along with three of her siblings (Lexi, Dunstan, and Onyx), Melanie was rescued from the floods in Arkansas in the spring of 2011. Melanie is the most fearful of the group, but this Shepherd/Collie mix is extremely loveable! At just over 1 year old, Melanie weighs 27 pounds. She has a very gentle temperament and finds great comfort in the presence of other dogs; she is also very kind to the smallest of kittens. Slowly, yet steadily, Melanie is gaining confidence here at Bideawee. The staff and volunteers work with her daily on building her confidence outside, and with loud noises and new people. This beautiful, timid girl is being fed her meals on her walks and is thereby getting more comfortable with the sights, sounds, and smells of the big city! Melanie would do best with a gentle, mellow family with older, dog-savvy kids. Her new family will need to help her build her confidence with plenty of socialization, exercise, and positive conditioning. They will also need to continue her housebreaking, as she is still too afraid to relieve herself outside. A home in a quiet neighborhood would be ideal for Melanie.
Chelsea is a loving and very playful young kitten that was rescued in the neighborhood of Chelsea in Manhattan! This adorable medium-haired baby was fostered and bottle-fed by a staff member until she was old enough to be spayed and join the big kids in our "kitten resort"! Chelsea is frisky and still learning "bite inhibition," so she needs an experienced family with kids over age 9. She would do well in a home with another energetic kitty or dog!
The funny thing is my name is Melanie and my first best friend is Chelsea.
