Two of the main five styles of Chinese calligraphy are semi-cursive style (Walking Style, Hsin Shu, 行書) and cursive style (Grass Style). They are often used together to inscribe poems and signatures on Chinese calligraphy and/or brush painting artworks. They are often prerequisite for start learning Chinese painting since the techniques of Semi-Cursive and Cursive Styles are as versatile as brush strokes needed in Chinese brush painting.

  • Are you holding the brush in a different way when you are doing grass style?

    5 shuriken

  • I hold the brush in different ways when doing different styles.

  • Chinese calligraphy is called the "track of heart" or "mind images" by many Chinese artists. They stay in an artist's mind and do not appear.

  • correction: They stay in an artist's mind and do not dissapear.

  • One of Robert Bo's old warehouses was at least 5,000 sq feet... somehow it was not in a very safe area... that's why he moved. His wife and daughter also lives in Plano.

  • Thankyou for this. A friend of mine literally works over the road from him now in Plano. I just called her, she says she will try and go in some time next week. He has recently moved hasn't he, form one warehouse to another.

I would love to relieve him of his work there so that he could go and see his wife in China. Poor man. :o(

  • Most of Robert Bo's brushes on his e-Bay store are Hu Zhou brushes. Please look for the carving Hu Zhou 湖州 on the bamboo handle. Hu Zhou brushes are more of "long hair" type and wool hair rather than weasel hair according to Robert's visits to Hu Zhou. Since Hu brushes are so famous, there are some fake ones or cheap ones.

  • Hi, This was also impressive to see. Very pleasing on the eye.

But..... The Brush, the Hu Zhou brush, I remember you mentioned this before.... I am still waiting for oneof the other brushes in the video I put together BUT....

I looked in Mr. Bo's Ebay pages and cannot find a Hu Zhou brush or any word similarly titled as a brush.

Do you have any further details?

    That would be appreciated.

  • Thanks.

  • Beautiful calligraphy and music!
