Everyone says her mom is stupid and mean and stuff, but think of it in a mother's perspective. You give birth to and raise this child. Do you want to think of them being sick or doing something bad? You still see them as that little, perfect baby in your arms. So it may sound selfish, but I personally, I think it's the parents probably thinking "What did I do wrong to make my child do this?". Just putting my opinion in.
