@cali224 right. She should have HID her sexuality rather than try to get permision. If the school doesn't like it, then they should have tried to help her rather than be closed minded bigots
@ToxicOdiousOne wow...just wow....You don't know the first effing thing of which you speak. It was an American tradition to hold slaves and discriminate against those who did not look like us. Should we go back to that? It was an American tradition for women to be treated as property. Should we go back to that?
@kvjhedfbv Straight people can bring the ones they want to prom, that's pretty easy to see you know. A girl brings a boy and visa versa and it's all fine.
But gay people can't bring who they want to prom. That's an issue of rights there.
That's the sort of equal rights we're talking about.
@kvjhedfbv Well this is getting nowhere, the fact is every person should have the right to choose whom they go to prom with, be it one whom is female or male. The school denied her this right, it's a very simple, very small right that means a lot. It stops a person from taking the person they love to something very special. Tell me the reasons why she shouldn't be allowed to do that. It makes no sense to me. That's it. Some rules are meant to be broken, and I'd break this one.
One day, the Constitution was on McMillen's side and protected her rights!
The next day, the Constitution is worthless because white property owners wrote it???
I can only conclude Lesbians think they should not have to follow any rules, laws and codes because of their sexual orientation.
In other words, Lesbians want to use the court system to enforce discrimination based on sexual orientation (Heteros must follow the rules but not Lesbians).
@kvjhedfbv Democratic vote by each state? Sure only white men who owned property voted for it, and that's the exact sort of discrimination I'm talking about here. Her rights are being stepped on because she's different, she asked the principle nicely if she could bring her date and dress in a tux, both which were denied. Then she contacted a legal peaceful group to protect her rights as a homosexual person. AND THEN SUDDENLY THE SCHOOL CANCELS THE PROM OMG.
@kvjhedfbv You pay taxes because you receive services form the government (what services you get or don't get) these rules will always be the same.
But the fact is rules that go against our constitutionally promised freedoms, those rules are the ones that we need to do away with. That includes all the rules McMillen is having to fight.
Tax rules and Civil rights injustices are seperate and clearly different subjects.
Told you couldn't bring your special one to the prom with you, and told that even though you intended to wear formal respectable clothing, you couldn't wear that outfit either.
These rules restrict everyone for who they can take to the prom and what they can wear!
This girl feels like she should not follow the rules because she hates her heterosexual classmates.
@haboreh Actually the judge didn't rule against her. The judge ruled that the school was wrong but since it was cancelled nothing could be done at this point.
Just imagine you were the one in her position. Told you couldn't bring your special one to the prom with you, and told that even though you intended to wear formal respectable clothing, you couldn't wear that outfit either. And why? All because of a dusty old law from homophobes who don't want their children to see something that, lets be real, they'll all see in college.
Everything is civil rights with you race and gender baiters isn't it? Lol. Progressives. How is that "progress"?

American's have the birth right to live free of Lesbian sex.
Heterosexuals reject the Lesbian tradition of women prancing around wanting to be like men.
Heterosexuals are born to reject Lesbians, there is nothing that can change it.
Lesbians need to learn to be more tolerant of people that are different from them.

Sharia law. Men should reassert their authority over females again. No more manginas. Men are the boss. Females are subordinants.

@Eaglegirl12
the rule the school board came up with favors straight people and not gay people.
Again, no rule will please everyone (Including Heteros), it's impossible!
I'm sure there are Heteros that disagree with all of the same codes.
If the majority of board members feel that Lesbians are not being treated fairly, the codes will be changed.
Until then, Lesbians will have to follow the same rules.
kvjhedfbv 1 year ago
@kvjhedfbv Perhaps you can understand this then, the rule the school board came up with favors straight people and not gay people.
That's the point, and if the community stood behind the student's rights more they could definitely change force the board members do do something.

@Eaglegirl12
Heteros can "NOT" bring anyone they wish to a prom, the school board makes those decisions!
Lesbians can "NOT" bring anyone they wish to a prom, the school board makes those decisions!
If you do not like the rules, appoint/elect board members that will change the rules you dislike!
I can not make this more simple!

Heteros can "not" take anyone they choose to a prom.
Heteros must follow the same dress code.
Why do you think Gays should use a court of law to bypass these same codes?
I thought Gays wanted equal rights?

The Judge ruled that canceling the prom was the best course of action for the school to protect their Constitutional rights.
Clearly, McMillen just wants free money and attention at her classmates expense.
She is very selfish and mean!

@Eaglegirl12
The Constitution was ratified based on a Democratic vote by each state!
The school district board members were elected by a Democratic vote.
If you do not like the board members, vote them out!
McMillen's lawsuit is an attempt to skirt the Democratic process.
As a result, the citizens feel like their Constitutional rights have been violated!
This is why McMillen's actions are very selfish and shows she hates her classmates!
She ruined the prom for everyone!

I see.
I think it's wrong that I'm forced to pay Social Security taxes.
I vote for Politicians that want to phase out Social Security, that's all I can do!
We all live with rules that we do not like and McMillen is learning this valuable lesson now!
