It'll be great to see Lance in Kona. A win? Not against Craig Alexander, McCormick, or even Lieto. But I'm sure he'll more than hold his own. If he can put in 2 or 3 solid years of competing at Pro HIM and FIM levels, than it becomes a very real possibility that he can start fighting for wins.

very good analysis though i have to say after panama he will compete, he shown to have a solid swim and of course on the bike. for the run he had a solid 1:7 split, will he be able to hold up a 2:50 marathon after a 114.4 miles? i think he'll definitely be competing for a top 5 and may just get it but a win will be very tough.

aha Lance actually started off as a triathlete so im sure he would be perfectly capable

@JaeRedMarketing Lance just blew this interview out of the water.. I know Chris was talking more about the full Ironman distance, but even still I think Lance would be right up there with them all. Lance pacing right on with Lieto on the bike... Not a bad showing for his first 70.3, wouldn't you agree Chris McCormack?!?!?!

Lance just took second in a half Ironman in Panama, losing by just 42 seconds to a 2x Olympic Champ. Macca acts like Lance is never experienced a swim to bike transition, lol.

Thought it was nice the way Macca acknowledged a fellow triathlete like Lieto, who is hands down the best cyclist amount professional triathletes. As great as Lance is, Macca is totally right.

True. It's going to be exciting to see what he can bring to the table. But I think a :55 swim is doable for him if he gets into a nice group. As for the run, I still think 3:30 is a conservative estimate. It takes time to build up marathon speed when it follows a swim/bike. Boston was just a run by itself. In Kona he'd be all alone with that choking heat. That burns time. Anyway, his presence seems on the fence. In April he said he wasn't going, but in July some said he was.

@AntiFalconPunch i did not say that hes gonna win or going under top 5... i just wanted to show, that its almost impossible for lance to win. and i dont see him swimming 55min. and 3.30 neither... less fast swimming, faster running. for 4:30 he should have saved so much energie to run a bit, just a bit faster. but who knows... im just excited actually =)

If you're saying that those times are realistic for Lance, then no. And if we're calling times already, more likely splits for him if everything goes right would be :55, 4:30, 3:30 = with T's, about 9:00. I personally wouldn't expect less than 9 hours, with a much more realistic Kona premier being around 9:30. That means that if he breaks into the top 50 finishers it will be awesome, but top 5? Probably not. Kona is no joke. But it will be awesome to see him there. Just to race!!

I love Macca. No one is as good as him in his mind, and he's (almost) always right
