Much confusion of eras and trends here. Also poorly researched. Kate Hepburn wore pants and so did women of her generation. Watch a Bette Davis movie closely ad you might notice that she went braless. Independent women have always expressed themselves in their clothing, or lack of it.

Wrong. Mods were anti-hippie. Especially the "hard mod" which went on to become skinheads. Skinheads beat up hippies.
That is...unless you're talking about peacock mods or the really effeminate types. The hard mods beat these up too.
