This is an older model done in 2008. Encitra is a company based in Irvine, CA. In this demo, we created a virtual world from real world data and demonstrated some practical uses of having a virtual environment of the real world.

  • looks like it's using the second life client

  • The second life client is compatible with opensim servers. You can also you Hippo Viewer. Both works great in our opensim servers.

  • @linuxninja7 Also whats the website.

  • @linuxninja7 Wow Very, Very Nice Video. I have a question. Are people allowed to customize the cars and get inside of them(Actual Drive them manually) oh and add stores?

  • Look up photosynth from Microsoft, if you havent already heard about it. It is what you are suggesting, it makes 3d models from photos and it works well. It is, however, a long way from perfect. Search zanzibar on the photosynth website for a good example of how accurate it can be.

  • Simply amazing. I always wondered how it would be like if an application that could allow making real life building in a 3D space like Opensim or even a game map existed. Of course in our days that's still extremely difficult and requires a lot of work, but maybe something like this will once allow using a picture from different angles or something to get a building in :)

  • Very interesting use of OpenSim. It left me curious to find out more about the project, and was also an incentive to get my own OS regions working! Thank you for posting this.
