What happens when you don't like the message of an album? You could be offended by it, or maybe just find it boring. Does it ruin an album for you? A song? For me, it can. Is that a bad thing? Are messages separable from music? What about offensive messages? What about cliche messages?

  • what's the album with the eyeless chick?

  • its nice when albums aren't 100% serious business. like old zappa albums the music was good but the lyrics were often not very serious. thats just what i think

  • The song Science turned me off a lot when I listened to the lyrics. I can't even listen to that track anymore.

  • yup

  • I love writing fascist bass lines. Ab minor progressions just scream "Get away from me jigaboo!"

  • Well... there are some messages that I can tolerate cuz your decision whether you agree with that message or not depends on how you look at some aspects of it. Saying that a certain race is better than another makes no sense and it doesn't matter how you look at it. I can't separate the lyrics from the music if there are any so as long as these fucks creating bad messages don't shut up I won't buy their albums. How simple is that?

  • lol I read "massages"

  • @johnverhaywholivesin Odd Future has messages in their music?

  • To me personally, I believe a reviewer should simply state what they felt about what they're reviewing and why. Trying to take an objective stance is pointless most of the time - just be honest.

Touchy messages can be factored into your /10 rating because they affected your enjoyment of the piece of art, but then please articulate what the messages are so that we may know whether it would also brush up with our own principles.

  • In any case, I have no issue separating the message from the music, and even sometimes entering the headspace of the musician while I listen to a record. I think it would have been interesting if you had brought OFWGKTA up.
