The motion: "We should accept performance-enhancing drugs in competitive sports"

Moderator: Bob Costas
Speaking for the motion: Radley Balko, Norman Fost and Julian Savulescu
Speaking against the motion: George Michael, Dale Murphy and Richard Pound

IQ2US marks the launch of Oxford-style debating -- one motion, one moderator, three advocates for the motion, three against -- in New York City. Each evening begins at 6:00P with a complimentary cocktail period. As you enter the theater before the debate starts at 6:45P, you cast your vote for or against the evening's motion. Those results are displayed midway through the debate as each side makes its statements. After all six panelists speak, the audience has a chance to ask the speakers questions and vote again. The debate finishes with brief summations from the panelists, the votes are tallied and a winning side is declared.

  • Back-to-back MVP award winner.

An Icon of 80's cable TV baseball. A real hero to children of that era in baseball!

Why is he not in the hall of fame?

See, this is why I don't watch baseball anymore. Good people like this are much harder to find in the sport today.

  • I agree! Dale Murphy BELONGS in the Hall of Fame!!

  • @jvittetoe Haha good point! Still its funny how he is taking about the kids all the time. Kids are getting fucked up on weed, beer and all sorts of shit. None of it better then steroids. But still steroids are worst in their eyes.

  • @mombus Yeah, and you could do better?

  • umm... and there were... um steroids... um

Somebody give this guy a course in presenting himself... posing a sh*tty argument in a sh*tty manner.

  • You still cant take away these guys efforts, if I would juice I still would never be as big, dry, ripped, hard and shredded as Jay Cutler nor would I look as good.

  • What if your cursed with bad genetics? Are you just going to quit cause you cant win cause all these other guys are blessed genetically? Nobody can decied wheter to be good or bad at something, some just have talent and isent that unfair really? And buying a baseball cap dosent mean your Barry Bonds, or buying an animal shirt dosent mean your a bodybuilder.

  • Class.

  • Or should I say to think A-Rod at one time wore the number 3

  • To think that A-Rod wears the number 3 on his jersey is a travesty. 3 was, and always will be Dale's number.

Dale is in a class all to himself. The only modern player I would even equate to Dale on a personal and professional level is Greg Maddux.

  • I love his argument here, '...if 94% weren't using, that tells me you don't need these things to be the best...' Thank you Dale, for arguing for the motion. If you're comfortable in knowing that you don't need them to compete, then what moral authority can you come up with that justifies banning them? On your whim? On your say so alone? Arrogant fuck!

I think Balko nails it, '...if a free society means anything, we should be aloud to make all of our own decisions, even the bad ones.'

  • If the leagues really wanted to get rid of performance enhancing drugs they could, but steroids is what really brings the fans and more money to the leagues.
