Strikingly similar to the C715 in all the best ways, the Josephson C716 Condenser offers engineers a fixed cardioid capsule with the same fastidious attention to detail as its multi-pattern predecessor, as well as the same patent-pending foam-aluminum basket design. As David explains, the basket and body are a single piece, the random-scatter "aeration" pattern in the grille eliminating internal microphone reflections.
The capsule in the C716 is based on the same capsule found in the Josephson C700 series, examined in this video from the show. The C715's capsule features a different technological pedigree, which David explained to us, along with the sonic benefits its design offers to tracking engineers. He also gave us an insight into the reasons behind the general lack of electronic switching in Josephson microphones.
