I was offered the opportunity recently, to do an impromptu recording session in Elizabeth Hall, at Stetson University, in DeLand, Florida with my Pantheon Steel Halo, and my Panart Hang. The hall is over 100 years old and has a wonderful pipe organ. After seeing a nephews recital there, I was very keen on getting the opportunity to record there. There is a wonderful acoustic quality to the old hall that I just couldn't resist playing in.

This was the first chance to play here, and it was basically set up at the last minute. Next time I want to bring a couple more musicians and see what magic we can create.

I got 3-4 , maybe 5 good tracks that I am working on refining a bit. Perhaps I can cobble together the beginnings of a CD out of it all...... we'll see. For the time being, I am happy with the results. And besides, it was great fun.

Many thanks to Jim Campbell for taking time on a Sunday afternoon to help record. And thanks to Daniel McBride , for providing some nice backup percussion. You always try to keep my beat on track. ;) And Big thanks to Chip Wilson, the man with all the right connections. Thanks guys, you rock!

  • what mic is that please? Nice video and nice sound. You demostrate me that Halo sounds really great like a hang maybe!

  • @mikelson1988 Actually, the sound in this video is straight from my Sony Handycam internal mic. However, I did record the audio separately onto my laptop with a Blue Mics "Snowball" USB Condenser. For an economy grade mic, AND the fact that it's USB with no need for any more software or hardware (it's pug and play), I'm really happy with it's range. It's quite suitable for my novice needs.

  • oh man, i wish i could jam with you. you got good spirit!! thanks for all your contribution

  • Dude.....some day, I know we'll get the opportunity. And we will record it for posterity as well. It's going to be a blast! ;-)

  • Awesome recording atmosphere Danny! Loved the video and cool picture trasitions. I used to play my didge in a 4 walled raquet ball court for just such an acoustic reverberation like this. Please let me know if I could jam there with you and record as well. I have a mini digital recorder, didgeridoo, hang, fipple flute, and a halo in a couple months. Would love to see what majic we could create!

  • Kirk my friend, that would be awesome!~ I'll see what I can arrange. I also want to jam in the Devil's Millhopper, up by you as well. To me, that could be a great natural amphitheater. What scale Halo are you going to get? Can't wait for a Halo/Halo jam when you do get it! Keep in touch and let me know how it's going.

    Peace.
