If you have gone to trial and have been convicted, you should request an appeal. An appeal may be available to you if you want to challenge your trial court conviction or sentence or any other decision made by the court during trial. When you request an appeal, you are requesting a higher court to review and reverse the decision of a lower court for some error the court made. These errors can include incorrect rulings on the admissibility of certain evidence, incorrect applications of the law, insufficient evidence to uphold your conviction, or improper jury instructions. However, when you make an appeal, no new evidence may be presented and no new testimony may be heard. The higher court relies solely on the record and transcripts of the lower court.
