The New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has teamed-up with Operation Kids to rebuild dreams in New Orleans. Operation Kids and The Brees Dream Foundation aims to rebuild schools and fund much-needed children's projects, such as Lusher Elementary, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School, Beacon of Hope and New Orleans Recreational Department (NORD).
The New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School (Sci High), an open admissions public charter high school, offers a rigorous, lab-based education in science, math, and technology that prepares students to major in those programs at the college level.
Sci High has a student enrollment of nearly 400 students who come from all parts of New Orleans. Its student population is 86% African-American and 57% female.
The school's outside sports and recreation area was completely insufficient to meet the needs of a quality P.E. program. With funding from Operation Kids, drainage was improved, the courtyard repaved and relined, and new athletic equipment installed. In addition, a much-needed outdoor lab area for science classes was restored.
