this traditional taiji form was passed down by Wu Jian Quan. His father, Wu Quan You, was a member of the Imperial family's cavalry division, the Yellow Banner Brigade , and later the Emporor's personal bodyguards, the red guard. At the time,in the mid 1800's, Yang lu chan and his eldest son Yang ban hou had been retained by the imperial family to train his personal forces due to their reputations in fighting, as well as their advanced knowledge of internal energy cultivation. This form, originally designed by Yang Lu Chan himself,, focused on a smaller frame taiji, with more upright postures. Lightness and agility are heavily emphasized vs the heavy sinking energy often associated with the slow training in taiji. The form blends slow and soft with hard and fast movement, and circular as well as linear attacks, adhering more closely to principles of balance of yin and yang. Quite difficult to learn to preform correctly, when taiji began to be popularized it was necessary to simplify it into the slower softer more purely health related forms we know today as Yang taiji and Wu taiji... interestingly although this is basically a yang style form it was passed down through the Wu family from Wu chuan You (one of Yang's top 3 students) to his son Wu jian Quan, who then taught his daughter Wu ying hwa, and son in law Ma yueh Liang. Master Ma maintained that the form is essentially the same as was practiced in the Forbidden city in beijing by the red guard and the imperial family elite during the latter part of the 1800's. A very interesting peice of taiji history! Special thanks to my teacher Dr. Li Li Qun....who is a senior disciple of Master Ma Yeuh Liang.
ok, nice explanation, but what you are doing is somewhat different from the fast form that my teacher (Ma jiang Bao) father (Ma Yueh Liang) does in You tube

@MrChemanfu .... i trained in wing chun, wu xing ba fa, yang taiji, and chen taiji for several years before giving it all up to train with Dr. Li Li Qun (one of grandmaster Ma's senior disciples) after learning the whole Wu family system, and trainig in it for 12 years now I've been going back through Chen and Wu Xing Ba Fa to deepen and broaden my understanding of Wu Taiji... some of it invariably bleeds into my fast form...also my teacher Dr. Li's form differs slightly and i follow him closely
