Rickie Lee is an American Treasure. She is my Elvis.

I love this woman with all my heart and soul!

@ldnearthesea Without knowing her, the voice here IS pretty bad. Maybe not representative for the rest of her work. And how much she wrote is not related to her voice.

wow
John Lennon as Ken, nah, can't see it. he would beat the krap out of Ken and take off with Barbie in her new car.

totally charming...made me remember some ruff stuff I did to poor Barbie while listening to the Doors. *eg* (My Barbie waited for G.I. Joe to get back from the war, and she had tats before they were...art du jour?

anna is yet another cover of an early R&B classic. So is Twist and Shout. Cultural banditry when no one mentions the original artist or creators. The ironies continue. I like the Beatles and Ricki Lee Jones, but they need to acknowledge they both are copyong someone eles's work.
Rickie, forever the artisan, candid & fantastic.

Terrible voice? Check Rickie Lee Jones singing "Makin' Whoopee" with Dr. John on this site, and then make a comment afterwards about RLJ's voice. Like most great singers, she can sing using several different "voices" for effect. Not only that, she's written most of anything she's ever recorded, plays guitar and piano, and does good covers: jazz, blues, r&b, rock & roll, country/western, gospel: she's done it all, kinda like that guy she used to hang around some 30 years ago, Tom Waits.
