The Monroe Doctrine not only defined US-European relations, but was a major stepping stone on America's road to becoming a world power.

  • @Ninja1275: Yes, Jefferson was very Pro-French..After him The US had a love/hate relationship with Britain up until 1900, except for the massive tension during the Civil war when the Brits were unofficially supporting the Confederacy.. Then there was the great rapprochement and excepting Suez the US has been Britains protector and patron since..

  • @risteardsean Indeed. But America's position essentially depended on which Political party was in power. George Washington and the Federalists were (surprisingly) pro-British, which resulted in things like the Jay Treaty and even the Quasi-War against France. But once Jefferson, Madison, and the Republicans got into power the position reversed. The US found itself in the War of 1812 and even lesser known wars against Spain (British ally) in Florida.

  • @Ninja1275: Ah yes the old `Special Relationship`, incidentally a lot of France`s bitterness towards the US comes from the fact that despite there massive(and crucial) support to the Colonists against the British, the newly formed United States began to snuggle back up to the Brits, culminating with the US saying that they were neutral(Pro-British) when France got into war soon afterwords, despite the Pact between Washington and Paris proclaiming solidarity.(signed during the revolutionary war)

  • @risteardsean The Doctrine was presented to the U.S by the British. All the European powers knew that it was paper threat from the U.S but it was British backing and the Royal Navy which enforced it.

  • @hornybodhisattva So what?It didnt invent the automobile either.

  • Ilusion, not real dickhead..."ha, yet my souls burden thus should I lighten....."

  • The Monroe doctrine, however you want to regard its original purpose, became the seeds of hegemonic Imperialism.. It has nothing to do with "democracy", how many dictators were propped up in Latin America by the US? It was a warning to Europe that, the new boss of the Americas was the US...

  • america is not a country

  • more 'conspiracy' for epimpin101 to deny:

    watch?v=k13_XQ30pOw&feature=channel_video_title

History is but a litany of conspiracy...for how does anything occur without more than two people acting to a common end?

  • "if subversion/civil war fails...use proxies".

Libya. The recent civil war/uprisings across No. Africa were Roman fifth columns.
