The point of this song is NOT my vocal abilities, but of the ability to change hate and ignorance to love and understanding.

The choice to keep the word "Negro" in the chorus was made for two reasons; because in the new context of the song, the juxtaposition of an old term with a new message of hope seemed appealing, and because there was no other word that fit with the statement without radically changing the meaning of the phrase.

Minorities elected to rule over me.
They said we needed change; this is the right change for me.
