This is a homemade tarp tent I build using Henry Shires rain shadow as a guide. I added my own alterations and came up with a tent that weighs 2lbs 15oz including stakes, poles, and stuff sack.

  • This is awesome

  • @tmahendr Thanks so much

  • Nice indeed. You say you used a sleeping bag zipper for the entrance. Is that an ordinairy zipper? metal? plastic? Asking since I might use a straight zipper for making a 'curved' door in my own tent. A bit like the vango lightweightmodels. To do that , could I use any zipper?

    Thanks.

  • @peteragain Sorry for responding so late. It is a regular sleeping bag zipper from Joann Fabrics. It's metal and I haven't had any problems with it yet, but if I were to do it again I would use a ykk zipper. For the curve, I just made small cut perpendicular to the zipper to allow it to make the hard bend then make several passes with the sewing machine to reinforce it.

  • Nice tent man ,mass produce anytime soon?

  • @williammeridith That would be pretty amazing. I'll let you know when it happens

  • You messed up a good bowfishing arrow

  • I wanna make a tent... But i really dunno how. Been sewing and looking all over the internet. But im feeling a bit overwhelmed.

  • pass on

     the Plans;)

  • Unless you plan on making these for profit you should post up a set of plans for making this. Fabric size, cuts, etc... Would be awesome. Love the design of this, think I might give it a try myself! Thanks for sharing!

  • Great looking tent. Very simple, ultra light for a three/four man-er, and beautiful color.

  • That is a very nice peice of gear. Beautifully made. I like the one zipper too. If you had four people in that, I can see a little condensation building up but it's still a solid design. Love the red, too. Alot of people think it's polluting the view of the countryside but I like it for safety reasons. If you needed help, someone could find you. Wouldn't use it in Grizzly country. See Brawny3's video on colors. Bears are attracted to bright colors according to the park service. Cool tent buddy.

  • super cool

Thanks for the reply, I only found it today (..)

I always thought YKK was just a brand, but I understand that to make a curved zipper, a straight zipper can be used, of course a 90 degree angle is not what I am looking for.

    Thank you!

  • One of the best looking homemade tents ive seen thus far.. Keep up the good work and find a buyer for your design. Id be one of the first in line to buy one !!
