I didn't know who was Etta james until Beyonce did the film so thanks to Beyonce introducing Etta to our generation.

What Beyonce did for Etta was exactly what Diana Ross did in Lady sings the blues(a movie about Billie Holiday). They werent trying to BE them or SING just like them. They were paying tribute to those who paved the way for them.
