Apple likes to be known for helping the environment. Apple Inc. likes to be known to be simple; simplicity is bliss. If you did not like the computer at all (it sounds like), why did you buy one??
Aluminum unibody was recycled out of other soda cans (etc), the smaller box was suppose to help put more mbp's in one shipment.
