The Sweetness SXSW 2011 Debut

Sometimes in life, the universe decides to take charge by handing you something completely unexpected and beautiful and everything falls perfectly into place. And it scares the crap out of you.

That's precisely happened to the four of us last month when, in the stairwell between the 18th & 19th floor of the Marriott Hotel in Memphis, TN; we gathered for a late-night jam session and rehearsal. Rich four-part harmonies and heavy-cajon driven backbeats echoed and resonated, drawing in crowds of curious and excited spectators. It was there, in the halls, hotel rooms, and stairwells of the 48th Annual International Folk Alliance, that The Sweetness was born.

Three weeks ago, we were four solo artists. We never planned for any of this. But it's the kind of passion & chemistry we'd be idiots to ignore.

So here we are. Chloe and Aly, with a number of European shows & SXSW Showcases booked, invited Doug & Sam along for the ride. Within days of deciding to form as a band, we were offered house concerts, festivals, funds, and the moral support & encouragement from venues & fans all over the world. All without a single recorded track. Then, as if it weren't enough, world-renowned producer, Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor) cleared his schedule so we could - in one day - record our debut release.

Enter, You. Oh Generous and Beautiful Music Lover, You. Since none of this was planned for - we are in need of funds to cover the cost of recording and touring Europe with two additional bandmates. With your help, we will have albums to distribute when we premiere at SXSW, and tour Germany, UK, Italy, and The Netherlands in April & May.
