I've got a Fractal Designs Newton R2 1000w PSU and a GTX 580 on a waterblock and this whining noise has recently just started since I took the stock cooler off the graphicsc card. I've yet to determine where the noise comes from but my money is on the PSU....
...I may purchase a new PSU but I don't think it will rectify the problem.

With this PSU, I remember Crysis having that same whine when starting the game (where you get to see the awesome ads and stuff -- INTEL CORE 2 DUO EXTREME!).
Just played GRID recently with the same PSU, but never heard the whine. If it did whine, it was probably when the game was loading, just like Crysis.
