"they can do it"? in some countries democracy just doesnt work... it took europe centuries to develop democracy, what we have learnt is that democracy to succeed it needs stability, wealth and a homogenous population. look at the map of europe, look at how many tiny countries there are including mine, all the result of many wars making each country as homogenous in population as possible. Iraq is even more complicated, not only are the 3 major groups (shi'ites, sunnies and kurds) but they are..

Middle East is violent since outsiders interefered. Iraq never had the problem of terrorists until the coalition invaded it, Iraq never had the problem of Saddam and the Ba'thists until the CIA helped his rise to power. Same goes for Iran, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Ever since Rome, the Crusades, the ottomans and the mandate of the middle east it has been ravaged by conflict.

Iraqi children do not deserve horror period. Just like children everywhere do not. Don't pretend that invasion and military occupation based on lies is the way to peace. We worked out 60 years ago that philosophy is BS.

No child deserved the horror that was growing up under Saddam. There is war, but not without a aim of a better future.

The Iraqis will always kill each other....You say that, but...
Are we any different?

finally a respectful vid without the "kill them islams" bull crap. i can see that you have the best intentions, sadly i see a lot of bad vids as well. this vid shows how it is to be done. do you think democracy will work in Iraq is the most important question, I think not.

I'll tell you this: one of our interpreters, an Iraqi who fled Saddam, told me: "Don't underestimate Iraq. They can do it."

...they are split in many tribes and "families", structures of a nation that makes democracy even more complicated. what will happen is a civil war that is part of the normal evolution of a country, splitting Iraq up in at least 3 large areas. forcing people into democracy is like learnin chimps how to read...some kind of slow evolution is needed. if the US wants to prevent the civil war from happening... it is there to stay for a 100 years, hope they are committed enough for that job.

Believe me, I hear you. But look at the modern Celtic countries, where society is also made up of clans, and in a sense tribes, if you include the Gaels, and their democracy works. The Arab countries can do the same, I believe, after the reigns of terror end.
