On October 3, 2007, the visibility had been fantastic, pushing 50 feet. It has been a while since I have dove cove 1 and wanted to find the wreck again. As it is the pipe for surface run off empties at cove 1. There are signs posted for no swimming, fishing, or eating of shellfish because of the run off. The weather was talking about rain but it hadn't rained yet. We took our chances. At the beginning of the dive the waters were clear. However while we were under we had a flash rain. Although we didn't find the wreck on our way back this is what I saw coming from the pipe.

  • This happens in most major cities during heavy rain. Dumping sewage and run-off together is a bad idea. Boston, of all places, is installing a rain water capture system to hold runoff during these events and then treat the water later. Costly, but well worth the investment.

  • Thanks for your reply. That is the point. That is the point most people read the sign but really aren't aware of what it really looks like. On the surface the view or the water looks nice. Please send it around to your friend. It helps when people actually see what need to change.

  • Gross man. Disgusting what we do to pollute things. Put our own waste in the ocean.

  • People with leaks with car fluids need to get them fixed. Also fertilizers and poisons need to not be spread around so liberally.

  • This is great video to let folks know what happens with those pipes that are out of sight.

We need to make sure we keep pollution from going down the storm water drains if we want to protect Puget Sound and our marine resources!

  • ........ew
