Well, for me, one advantage of the side door is that it doesn't require a lot of room for it to open. For example, if I were to park back to back closely with another car, I wouldn't need a whole lot of room for me to open the door and put my stuff in. I can slide inside with a slit of space and be able to put organize my groceries, whereas a upward door, I would need to have it opened fully.

I have the 2009 Rav4 Sport and it's the best car I've ever driven.

Someone please give me a reason why the rear doors open sideway instead upwards.

I like the car but the door is putting me off as i see it impractical. Any advantage there?
