FortisBC recently introduced one of the first renewable natural gas programs in Canada. Research told us that people were starting to switch off because of the numerous doom and gloom environmental messages and that our target liked to be rewarded for making positive changes in their lives. So, we decided to take a light-hearted educational approach in order to break through and get noticed. We created a campaign that centered on friendly, animated versions of the bacteria microbes that work hard to break down the organic waste and convert it into biomethane. By taking this unique approach, we were able to provide information in an entertaining and memorable way. The campaign launched on June 15th consists of an educational video, web banners, direct mail and microbe mascots who attend local community events.
