The Real Ghostbusters is an American animated television series based on the 1984 film Ghostbusters. The series ran from 1986 to 1991, and was produced by Columbia Pictures Television, DiC Entertainment and Coca-Cola.

At the start of the third season in 1988, with the series renaming, it was given an hour long time slot. In addition to the regular thirty-minute Real Ghostbusters episode, a half-hour Slimer sub-series was added that included 2-3 short animated segments focusing on the character Slimer.

At the end of its six season run, 147 episodes had aired, including the syndicated episodes and 13 episodes of Slimer, with multiple episodes airing out of production order.[13] The segments added several characters as friends of Slimer, including the character Professor Norman Dweeb—mad scientist accompanied by a poodle named Elizabeth who wanted to capture Slimer to experiment on him.

The Professor Dweeb also made infrequent appearances in the main series. One of the ghosts from the Slimer cartoons, the Sleaze, also reappeared in The Real Ghostbusters to be captured a second time.

  • It was nice of Slimer to let the Ghostbusters be a part of their own theme song.

  • why did the show become more about slimer? the GB's look like they are just guest stars. i like slimer but they really overdid him by this time.

  • Am I the only one who thinks this is the better intro?

  • @ZyxthePest Thankfully, Slimer was just a sort of running gag in Extreme. As opposed to, you know, being the Jar Jar Binks of the series.

  • Well, clearly, Slimer's role was expanded from sidekick to title-sharing character because the producers wanted to attract a younger demographic.

To a children's show. That children were already watching. So what I'm saying is, no, it doesn't make any sense.

  • Slimer's bigger involvement in the cartoon ruined it. Ghostbusters were cool because they had to throw the trap and stomp on it. (like a heroic scene) With slimer doing it, it's just not cool anymore. It's like the ghostbusters are unable to do it on their own. I agree with ZyxthePest. Extreme was definitely better than this as stated by him. It was probably disliked because the original team was replaced.

  • hmm...

  • I HATE 0:35 with a passion. Slimer is annoying.

  • Cool opening. Better than the original.

  • People hate Extreme more than THIS? Come on now.

While I can sympathize with some of the less than pleasurable choices Extreme made, which there aren't a lot of in my opinion, at least it never put Slimer at the forefront of the series.

Still not convinced that Extreme had more integrity? I've got two words for you.

    Junior. Ghostbusters.

It was also nice of them to let Samhain to be a part of the intro.

  • THE FACT THAT THEY TOOK THE THEME FROM THE FILM MAKES THIS AWSOME
