Carmine bee-eaters (Merops nubicoids) have shiny crimson and green coats which contrast vividly against the bright red of the sandy cliffs.
The birds were already nesting in their deep burrows, where eggs would soon be ready to hatch.
As we filmed the birds swooping in and out of their burrows, a large boomslang (Dispholidus typus) began winding its way in and out of various nesting holes, much to the consternation of the birds.
