This CUDA experiment maps a FULL-HD (1920x1080 @ 30 frames per second, MPEG2 compression) video source into 3D space. Each frame is processed in real-time on the GPU using CUDA. Each pixel in a frame (2.073.600 pixels per frame) is scaled by its luminance value and given the original color. The camera flight is realized with a 3D space navigator in real-time. This application is written in C# using DirectX 11, CUDA.NET and DirectShow.NET libraries. Benchmarks: GPU load is about 85% (GTX 260), GPU memory controller load 25%, CPU (i7-920) is at 20%.

The soundtrack is made by Ludwig Berger:

As slashcam.de reports, this application might be utilized for a quality check of video footage, like in a waveform monitor:

  • Holy shit. Anywhere I can buy this dude's music?

Oh, the demo is cool too. heh.

  • @xalener Thank you! The soundtrack was created by Ludwig Berger. Please visit his site to contact him or to find more information. See the video's description...

  • would it be possible to do this in a standalone EXE version that users could import their own video into and make it available for download.

or even a visualizer plugin for i-tunes or media player.

I've lost count how many times i've watched this video, its just amazing.

but i'd really like to see my own computer doing it in real time.

    (quad core phenom and a GTX460 1Gb DDR5.)

nvidia should pay you to develop this into a tech demo :)

  • @chemicalBR0 We're working on an official version that will be open source. We keep you informed!

  • @huashengdou9799 We're sorry, but this is the truth for the system configuration as described. This video was simply recorded from a real monitor (1920x1080 @ 60 fps) while running the application. So there is no fake about the framerates. With a new GTX 580 you get the same smooth results, but of course running on lower GPU load. 60fps display framerate is because of VSync, that's why we wrote 60+fps, because even higher rates may be possible in other configurations.

  • @phdrify I don't know, i don't know, I just saw another game saying running on 100fps and I really have no idea. Excuse me.

  • @phdrify awesome :)

  • @huashengdou9799 30fps is the 1080p video playback rate, the graphical display runs fluently on 60+fps, depending on the graphics card and the monitor resolution...

  • but 30fps is not a lot...

  • It's simple and beautiful.

  • It´s a fucking master piece, I love it!...
