@winwick ? How so? Firstly he wasn't English but a foreign invader. Secondly, he forced his will on England by slaughtering the English population. Thirdly, he spent most of his subsequent yers back in Normandy so you could hardly accuse him of going native. William was a paranoid and vindictive butcher; not what I would call great at all.
@legomyeggo713 By the time of Hastings the ruling class in Normandy and become heavily influenced by French language and culture but their bloodline was Scandanavian. The very name "Normandy" takes it's name from the Norseman that came to control it. The Normans were indeed descended from Vikings,
The man telling this story sounds like he has been asked to tell all the facts he has learned after looking up only the main facts of William's life. His voice has no feeling and he makes Williams story sound dull and uninteresting which is a shame. If the Swedish Herman Linquist had told the story it would have come alive and would have captivated people as it should:)
I find great that now in our days the future king of England's name is William. A true, great honor to the greatest King of England William the conqueror and duc Of Normandy. What a give back, seems also that England would not be what it is now without Guillaume le Conquérant. God bless the Normands!!

@legomyeggo713 The Normans were initially vikings from Scandanavia. So, William was Scandanavian.
