Car: Toyota Celica st185 (2.0L Turbo AWD 1990, engine: 3SGTE) ( http://www.turbocelica.lv )
Testing problem with knock sensor. Diagnostic code 52 comes up with the Check Engine Light, when car is at around 1800rpm with no load. at full load it goes over the rpms and doesnt shoot the light up. I have some metallic vibration in the engine bay at ~1800, need to check where its coming from. and yes, there is no exhaust :D

  • as i said it was piston hitting the head - thus it sound just the same as detonation (piston hitting cylinder wall). reason for this was worn out bearing (main or rod, dont know). after a while the beating blew the gasket. it could probably also be worn out cylinders, then you would have massive oil blowby and low compression!

  • yea i had this problem i a 99 camry the sensor is bad and is cause it to do that, its not tellling the timing what to do

  • after a week the head gasket was blown.. the vibration was probably of piston hitting the head because of a worn bearing. there was a clear sign on the head were the piston was touching it.. RIP 3sgte :(

  • @briinums Are you sure it was the head gasket? I have the same issue witht he same car at exactly 1800 RPMs. Thanks.

  • @briinums In my st205 I had oil blast through my airfilter all over the engine bay, I sent my turbo off to be overhauled and they reported that a front facing oil seal had blown, my engine warning light was on and when checked was code 52, the car was built back up and im still gettin oil comin out through air filter, engine sounds quite healthy when running though hopefully its just a blocked breather pipe.

  • @devakaguna i do on my 88 supra turbo , u hear a slight knock noise and i have really harsh start ups and blow clouds of qhite exhaust fumes , i no its not my gasket, and ive done the wire diagnostic test and showed no faulty activity, Im stumped

  • I have the same problem in my Toyota Carina AT 192. The Engine check indicator come up when I'm driving some distance. Once the indicator comes up, the pulling power reduces drastically. When the engine was checked, the diagnostic unit reported the Knock sensor is faulty.. Is anybody there who have a similar kind of a problem??? Appriciate some feedback....
