Officials from the five nations with Arctic coastlines are meeting in Greenland for talks on the territorial status of the polar region. According to geologists, up to 25 % of the world's oil and gas reserves could be buried under the ice. The controversy over exploration rights intensified last year after a Russian research vessel planted a flag on the sea-bed at the North Pole.

Considering our land goes right up to the North pole, we are guaranteed (a slice) whether you like it or not sorry.

And the the other noted countries never gave a rats ass about the arctic until oil was discovered, now all of a sudden it's important. The Arctic North is in our culture, it is part of Canada.

  • @TheCORE87 no, sorry no, canada is a very new country, all the ohter noted countries were there before, before it was canada, it was tribes.

  • @TheCORE87

    And Denmark.

  • LOL leave the Estonians alone.

  • The only two countries that deserve arctic oil is Russia and Canada, the US has the gulf of Mexico (and Iraq)...

Both Russia and Canada were here before anyone else

    Cheers!

  • @lucy9359 Alaska never belonged to Canada. Research the Alaska Purchase. It was sold by Russia to the US for approx 7 Million Dollars because they were afraid Canada was going to take it over.

  • Ok so lets add Uranium now to global warming. They need to realize that a war will not solve this issue. I am Canadian and I know that Greenland belongs to Denmark always has Alaska use to be Canada until we gave it up to the Americans which was brilliant on our part as we could not defend our selves from Russia. America ends in Alaska and well it is common knowledge that the rest of the Arctic is Canada but lets face it boys no one ever owned the North Pole acsept for Santa Claus!

  • When I read this in "The Big Thaw" by Ed Struzik, I was appalled. While the nations involved do have legitimate ownership over some regions of the arctic, there is no need to start a dispute with Canada by planting a Russian flag on the oceanbed. The claim that these icebreakers were entirely designated for scientific purposes foiled the Canadian government and made a spectacle of this false underwater land claim. It's not the 15th century where you can just plant a flag and claim it as yours.

  • North pole belongs to Denmark, historic right come first.

  • Hey! I went to the North Pole!

I SAY NORTH POLE IS MINE! :B
