the television either cultivates or reflects (or a combination of the two) a very weird worldview in which there are saviours, rule-breaking cops, victims, us, robber outcasts, and twisted serial killers. Ever notice how many serial killers there are on the TV? Enough that this Dexter the Anti-Serial Killer Serial Killer can kill one or two a week! So much fear and morbid fascination, all seeming to cultivate the idea that we need monsters to fight our monsters. And then we start torturing.
