  • lol fucking awkward...

  • @NoTrueFace1 Extras Episode 6, Series 1. The character Ian Morris, head of new comedy, is a gay man and probably the only person in the entire series that doesn't get ridiculed anywhere.

  • @DayDreamAscent

the celebs are kind of a different story. they're intentionally extra ridiculous. they do parody everyone in this show it's true, but not continuously or to that degree, or the black guys wouldn't be able to talk in any form but rap.

  • @NoTrueFace1 sorry that's just paranoia in my opinion. Every character in Extras gets the pee ripped out of him. Ronnie Corbett is shown snorting coke, is that unfairly stereotyping short comedians? Keith Chegwin is shown as a racist homophobe, is that stereotyping former children's TV presenters?

Of course the gay characters in Extras are portrayed in a comedic way - why should the gay characters not be open for ridicule the same as the straight characters in the show?

  • @DayDreamAscent

First i'd like to mention that i'm not the guy you first responded to, in case you didn't notice that. Second I must disagree. I mean this is the equivalent of having every black guy with his pants falling off and rapping and talking about robbing a gas station. I pray that few gays act like this in real life, and if they do it can only be because they've seen it on T.V.

  • @NoTrueFace1 I think that's just paranoia. There isn't exactly a positive portrayal of ANYONE in Extras, which is surely as politically correct and even-handed as it can get.

  • @ChristopherDone sorry mate but it wasn't until the end in the reality show scene where Millman had an actual ouburst of emotions. He's very quite and static throughout the show. Extras is an awesome comedy though, I ain't questioning that.

  • @DionKool You think he's like that throughout the whole show? Sounds like an ill-informed observation.

  • @DayDreamAscent

I suppose it is true that respectable characters are rare in Extras, but I'm hard pressed to find a single virtue in any of the gay people in these shows. I hate the tv gay stereotype. If being gay inherantly meant being a slutty, vain, pretentious, materialistic clown, then i'd be the orientation equivalent of a racist and proud of it. Perpetuating this image perpetuates homophobia and ruins the self image of young gays.

  • @FranBMan I'm not sure that's right, where is there a negative portrayal? And how is it different from the heterosexuals in Extras, they aren't portrayed any differently as far as I can see.
