ive got the album in my car and ive listened to it well over 30 times through. great band, the duet vocals compliment each other so well

Who gives a fuck if a band or singer is mainstream or whatever. If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't. It's about what YOU like and what the artist likes and the music they want to make. If everyone makes the same shit and likes the same shit then that's being a follower, a sheep, a lemming or whatever you want to call it. Don't be a follower, be a leader. Don't be part of the herd, be heard.

Wow. A band doesn't need to be featured in a commercial or tv show to be mainstream. I've heard tons of idiots talk about them around school, and seeing as their latest EP was featured in Rolling Stone, I'd say they are mainstream.
Animal Collective is only "different" if you're a mainstream listener. Sorry to say. :)

this song's good, but an entire album of the same chilled out, electronic dream-pop stuff comes off as bland and emotionless. I found all the songs sounding pretty much the same, barely any dynamics. Just my $0.02.
