Maybe it is the fact that kids are bombarded with thousands of junk food ads a year, parents don't regulate and teach their kids how to eat healty, or the fact that fast food and soda companies send billions of dollars a year ensuring that their food reaches the kids of America wherever they go (shops, school, home, etc.)?
