Premiering Friday September 25th at The Glen Art Theater in Glen Ellyn, IL and Sunday October 11th at The Music Box Theater in Chicago, Beneath The Music: The Story of Greatest Hitch! is a "rockumentary" about the artistic challenges in releasing independently produced music and media within a cultural landscape dominated by reality TV, indie labels and the internet.
At breakneck speed musician Eric Howell introduces the greater public to his debut album which took fifteen years to release (while the spirit of Andy Warhol rides shotgun beside him) and portrays himself as a frustrated closet comedian with an unwavering belief in himself and his music, despite the odds. WXRT's Lin Brehmer, Bill Rancic (yes, that Bill Rancic) and legendary Chicago crooner Jimmy Damon testify throughout the documentary to Howell's commitment to a musical vision, as do several of the musicians that play on Greatest Hitch! who, with the passage of time, don't recall exactly what they played. The resulting "rockumentary" is an honest yet farcical portrait of what "D.I.Y" means to a project produced on a shoestring budget that began when everything was analogue.
