@arsus87 close, it uses a variant of the S series but not the S70/2, IIRC this is a 7.0L engine. The engine was developed for the BMW V12 LMR prototype car but they couldn't find anything in their lineup big enough to hold the engine except an X5 so they put it in that.
What amazes me is the 7-series came factory with a V12 at the time, you would think they would have put it in that.
