The story behind this...

I thought that you only needed Level Select to play every stage of Sonic 3 & Knuckles with any character, but I was wrong. Level Select alone will only allow you to pick levels you were allowed to play during normal gameplay, so you can't put Sonic in Knuckles' short Sky Sanctuary with Mecha Sonic, and you can't put Knuckles in Sonic's second part of Lava Reef Zone or in Doomsday (for example).
If you want to put characters where they don't belong to, you need to enable BOTH Level Select and Debug Mode.
I seriously didn't know about this, and with this video response I'm saying that yes, I was wrong. Sometimes it happens as well, and there's no reason for me to hide it, what's fair is fair.

  • @b2j135

I know! It's so damn stupid!!

  • @Cinj216 challenge for a fan.....good job sega!

  • @mspeter97 And to make it worse, the inputs only register during certain frames. So, even if you do input the code within the correct timeframe, if they weren't inputted within the correct frames it will not activate the level select. Crazy, I know.

  • @b2j135 it's up up down down up up up but yes you have less than a second

  • @FergusonGames - He's saying this because the level select code is so hard to input in Sonic 3 standalone, where they have to press a very quick combination as Sonic appears to achieve it. It's done this way because level select and debug was meant to be earned by those two zones from S3&K, the completed form of Sonic 3.

  • Wow so many memories. man you know, that death egg face at the end of the video and the scene used to scare me as a little girl

  • @24Jjssonicfan24 pres teh c buton

  • @b2j135 I'm afraid I can't help you with that.

  • @FergusonGames that's sonic 3 & knuckles your thinking of

I'm talking about regular Sonic 3 without the lock-on
