I haven't played for a Christmas Eve service in a few years, but with Michael playing trumpet for us this year I am playing one with him. His trumpet part is spectacular!
In any case, this is one of my favorite Christmas carols, and once I get the "glorias" under my fingers this one is a fun one to play.
THE ORGAN: is a 1968 Rodgers, its been a little dodgey the past couple of years, so it is being replaced with a new Rodgers model 928 + 6 ranks of real pipes.
There is very little color to this instrument, although it sounds way better on this video than it does in person. This pretty much shows how much color I have for registering a hymn. For the first verse I added the 2' super octave on the great.
For the 2nd verse the great mixture.
For the final verse I add the swell 8' trumpet and pedal 16' trombone..
Thats as loud as she goes!
Merry Christmas, peace and blessings to all!

  • It sounds good to me: the organ doesnt sound at all bad!

'Angels we have heard' to which, in the USA, this tune is linked, as far as I know, not in any UK carol collection: in England we always sing, Angels from the realms of glory to this tune, the last part being sung as: "Come and worship, Christ the new-born King. Come and worship: worship Christ, the new-born King."

  • Thanks for your nice words. In the US we use the tune "regent square" for "Angels from the Realms of Glory"

The old Rodgers organ is now no more, well it now belongs to a congregation member. We took delivery of our new Rodgers organ this past week, which will be both pipe and digital.

I do agree that theold organ did not sound too bad on video. I am in the process of posting a video of a little practice on the new one...

  • Jeff,

That is a wonderful piece, I didn't know you were such a great organist. That is also my favorite Christmas carol to play.

    Fantastic work!

    Sam

  • Thanks Sam, I appreciate the nice words. I love to play, but am more than a little out of practice. I think once the new organ comes, that will motivate me to get back into shape.

  • whoa I have that exact organ in my home. Im selling it though. It never sounded as nice as yours.

Thats so cool to that you also like vacuums and organ.!

    Im the same way!

  • This one is dying a slow death... the electronics are kinda fried now, and the swell plays when it wants to. Our new Rodgers 928 + 6 ranks of pipes is due to be installed in April.

    I can hardly wait!!
