http://climatemovement.org.au - join the climate movement. ABC TV News report 23 Nov 2009, with 200 people blockading Parliament House in Canberra to call on Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to secure a strong, legally binding treaty at the upcoming international climate negotiations in Copenhagen. This has been a true expression of the deep sense of betrayal many Australians feel about Kevin Rudds lack of effective action on climate change, said Georgina Woods, spokesperson for the demonstration. We voted for this government so they would stand up to the big polluters, and lead the world on dealing with the impending climate crisis. Instead, Kevin Rudd has perfected a marvellous line in greenwash, the polluters are getting taxpayer handouts and under the legislation currently before the Senate, Australia will not have to cut domestic emissions one jot. People have come to Canberra from around Australia today to take a stand for climate protection. We call on Kevin Rudd to do the same. Australia must commit to strong pollution targets, and no carbon offsets at the Copenhagen climate talks in two weeks. If he fails, mass arrests will continue as Australians take climate action into their own hands.

  • I know when the ice age ended. "The medieval warm period was probably local not global & not as warm as now even in those areas." Oh really? How many wineries do you find in England now? Your statement is clearly ridiculous. Australia is a large country with a small population so using a per capita calculation is meaningless in terms of our actual effect on global climate. Yes pollution is a problem but damaging our economy by paying a tax to an unelected world body will do NOTHING to solve it.

  • @glazinq So you admit you're wrong about sea level dropping 6000 years ago? Apology accepted.

There are just over 350 wineries in England now, according to the Wine Standards Board. So what? It doesn't falsify the science re MWP summarised in IPCC 2007 WG1 Figure 6.13.

Per capita is the best way to calculate our fair share of pollution reduction. How else do you hope to achieve global agreement? Glad you accept we have a problem though. I hope you'll support the shift to 100% renewable energy.

  • jondoig, of course climate change is real, it has been happening since the beginning of time. 6000 years ago Australia's shoreline was miles further out toward the continental shelf. Wanna blame the Aborigines for that? 1000 years ago wine was produced in England. Too cold for that now. The truth is Australia produces approximately 1.5% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. We could reduce those emissions to zero and it would have ZERO impact on the earth's climate!

  • @glazinq Climate change has occurred naturally in the past, but current climate change is caused mainly by human emissions & is dangerous to civilisation. The Oz shoreline has been lower during Aboriginal occupation, during the Ice Age when water was trapped as land-based ice. This ended before civilisation began 11,700 years ago not 6000. The mediaeval warm period was probably local not global & not as warm as now even in those areas. We are the highest per capita polluters & must change ASAP.

  • Hey, Australia, don't fall for this climate scam. This is a world wide wealth redistribution scheme.

  • Hmmm. Climate change is real, face the facts. Copenhagen? we'll wait and see. Australia's CPRS = Continue Polluting Regardless Scam. World wide wealth redistribution, yes that's needed to help the poor cut emissions and adapt to the f*ck up we're causing. Thanks for commenting!

  • I'm going to miss Feilding, although that's not to say he's constructive. I thank myself for not living in Victoria.

  • wonder what abbott was thinking about at 1:47. damn it worked, he came oh so close to being pm.

  • Better to inject some honesty into the debate and talk about the real threats to our reef like phosphate emissions, pesticide and herbicide pollution , the impact of shipping etc, etc etc. Australia's CO2 emissions are the LEAST of our environmental worries!!!

  • As for the per capita calculation, it would be fair enough if it was presented in context with the overall global CO2 emissions. But it never is. In fact it's always presented in a thoroughly dishonest manner with such emotive statements as "if we want to save our Great Barrier Reef we (Australia) must act now to reduce CO2 emissions", when it's obvious that even reducing our emissions to 0 would have no net effect whatsoever.

  • Don't you see, you are being fooled by people who don't give a shit about your environment. They just want control over every aspect of your life. And you are playing into their hands. The issue is not CO2. The issue is POLLUTION!!! Believe me, I am more with you than against you in this. But handing more power and money to globalists (corporate entities) will achieve the opposite of what we want. We need to take back power at the local level. Reject globalization!!! You are being duped!!!

  • Furthermore I object to labels such as "climate change denier" as it is blatant ad hominem vilification and an obvious tactic to stifle open and honest scientific debate. This debate has been dumbed down to CO2 for public consumption in the same way that justification for the Iraq war was dumbed down to WMD.

  • Where did I say the sea level DROPPED 6000 years ago?! All I said was that it was miles further out. Typical of the misrepresentation we see constantly thrust at us by the GW alarmists. Sea levels were still rising at that time. Present levels, while possibly rising slightly (it's debatable), are remarkably stable by comparison. I support the shift to renewable energy alright. But I do NOT support the self elected militant oligarcs who have attempted to hijack the process!
