Daphne Odjig is a Canadian First Nations artist, speaking about her wide range of work and her history as an artist. Curator Bonnie Devine speaks about the importance of the artist, her work and the exhibition.
yes and guess what im related to her odjig translates into "fisher" she's my great aunt or great great aunt or something like that i have quite a few of her paintings as heirlooms i still can't believe im related to her but i am, i also have a few books about her paintings and about where she was from.
Very educational and part of our history as First Nations people. As a Potawatomi, Ojibwa, Odawa First Nations artist I feel there is a great need to educate Canada as to who we are as First Nations people and this is one way to do this. Images and symbols are a large part of our history. Our mothers are the unconditional givers and guidance of our true identity and pathway to a protective foundation.
