17/5001 is the official name of a bunker completed after five years of construction in 1983 outside East Berlin. In the event of nuclear war it was to provide shelter for the East German cabinet. The multistory facility is now open to the public, albeit for only a few weeks due to the expensive maintenance costs involved. It will be closed for good in October.

  • YAY! Go....some distant relative or other. My name's Crystal Lynn Honecker. and I typed "Honecker" into the youtube search bar out of boredom and found this. :)

  • Sensationalism. I'm not communist nor a supporter of the old DDR regime, but you can be sure that there are secret bunkers in USA, Great Britain and in (West) Germany for the political and military leaders. If there's a terrorist threat in Washington, the first thing they do is taking the president and politicians to safety. That's normal procedure. It would be insane if they didn't.

  • In your title, you could also call it by its proper name, the german acronym DDR. "GDR" is as if I called the USA by EEUU or EUA, also used in other languages. 0:50 And she even tried to proove a blond young boy as ignorant as a youngster in her country. Ridiculous. W edon't have that in Europe. You lost me at 1.01, too.

  • @EvilTube2007

The elite had imported Volvos; they weren't stupid enough to use Trabants (or even the somewhat better Wartburgs) That's why their special subdivision that they lived in (The Waldsiedlung) was nicknamed "Volvograd"

  • Okay, so they had a good nuclear war bunker. But, how the hell were the supposed to get there in a trabant???

  • W DDR! Glory to camrade Erich Honecker!
